I was fortunate enough to survive, even though the experience was very scary and I was in the hospital for eleven days. I'm very sorry for the loss of your son. Thank you for making this site to let people know about Lemierre's. I try to tell as many people as possible. It's scary that it's becoming more common. When I was hospitalized for it, there was actually a second girl that had it that came in two days after me. When my symptoms started with the sore throat, I went in to be tested for strep and when the results came back negative, the doctors just assumed I had the flu so they sent me home. I knew though when I started getting sicker that this had to be more than just the flu. When I woke up four days after being sent home, I was having trouble breathing so my mom took me to the emergency room where they were shocked by how weak I was. Within an hour of being in the hospital I could barely breathe even when I was on oxygen. It was made even scarier because the doctors didn't figure out what was wrong with me until my third day in the hospital so they could start giving me the proper antibiotics through my IV's.Carolyn Wheelernoreply@blogger.com
